Digitala Stambanan is a collaboration project between the strategic innovation programmes Production 2030 and PiiA financed within the framework of the collaboration programme
connected industry and smart materials.
Sweden is today one of the world's most competitive export countries. But the conditions for the industry are now changing dramatically. The analog economy gives way to a new digital market system. Data streams become at least as important as physical flows of raw materials and products. Exchanging data and information quickly and smoothly to both streamline and create new values along the industrial value chain will be crucial for continued competitiveness.
The project with Digitala Stambanan investigates and maps the needs and opportunities of digital information exchange in Swedish industry. Increased digitisation offers completely new opportunities for speed and flexibility in the value chains. This allows companies to collaborate with each other and their customers in new ways and create added value together.
During the industrialisation (Industry 1.0) in the 19th century, strain paths were built for the railway to streamline the transport of goods and people. The next industrial shift, Industry 4.0, instead requires a strain path to enable a rapid and frictionless exchange of digital information through the value chains in order to streamline and create new values; a digital strain path. A digital strain path contributes to efficient data flows between the actors in a digital market that connects the entire industry; from raw material suppliers, through process and manufacturing industries, to consumers.
An important prerequisite for strengthening the competitiveness of Swedish industry is that we join the digital market at European and global level as this enables greater market shares for Swedish companies. In the project Digitala Stambanan, we investigate and map how this digital platform enables efficiency and new value creation in the process and the value chain of the manufacturing industry.
